The Best Pride 2024 Events in Europe from Berlin to Budapest

Prepare your loudest, proudest outfits: this summer is the perfect excuse to plan a holiday around a European Pride event. Here are nine of the best Pride 2024 events taking place across the continent this summer.

March past the Colosseum in Rome: June 15

The Rome Pride parade passes the Colosseum, the largest amphitheatre in the world – surely one of the most iconic backdrops for a Pride parade anywhere. This year the event is also celebrating its 30th anniversary, so expect an even bigger turnout of floats, DJs and entertainers splashing colour across the Italian capital.

For 2024 the host city is the waterside Greek city of Thessaloniki, a popular student hub with some of the country’s best nightlife and a well-established LGBTQ+ community. As well as the traditional parade, with a myriad of floats and thousands of marching locals, there's a range of events to explore, such as the ‘LGBT Rights in a Diverse Hungary’ exhibition at the City Hall Park. Kick off a big Parisian summer with the city’s Pride festival: 29 June

With the arrival of prestigious sporting events, everyone’s talking about Paris this summer. But Pride hits the French capital first, with half a million people anticipated to gather for the event, which always has a wonderfully vibrant atmosphere. Following the parade, there’s free live music at the Place de la Republique. The Irish are famous for their warmth and hospitality, and the biggest Pride event on the island of Ireland is no exception. The Irish Pride parade journeys through the city centre from O’Connell Street to Merrion Square, and typically welcomes over 60,000 LGBTQ+ people and their allies. This year campaigning focuses on diversity, inclusion and belonging for LGBTQ+ people in the workplace, and there’s a free community and culture festival. Dance the night away in atmospheric Barcelona: July 15

Barcelona‘s Pride event is the biggest in the Mediterranean. Some 250,000 people join the city's parade, which skirts through this architecturally and atmospherically stunning destination. The Catalan capital has some of the best LGBTQ+ venues and a brilliantly welcoming crowd who are famous for keeping the dance floor populated until the small hours. Lay your head at Moxy Barcelona with its cool industrial-chic feel – think polished concrete and neon decorating the bar – or opt for W Barcelona, which has perfected a refined ambience that's sure to soothe after a long night on the tiles.

Float away with the Canal Parade in Amsterdam: 27 July – 4 August

At Amsterdam Pride, the floats actually do float – and down the city’s iconic canals, too. Aside from the activity along and around the waterways, there’s a wealth of activities to enjoy, from music to open-air cinema at the Vondelpark, where film screenings run all summer. Afterwards, experience life in Amsterdam’s oldest working harbour with a stay at Moxy Amsterdam Houthavens, which offers a 24-hour bar, great views across the city and handsome waterfront strolls. Alternatively, treat yourself to a rooftop pool with more of those stunning city views at W Amsterdam.

Party with a boundary-pushing crowd in Berlin: 27 July

The German capital has always had a reputation for boundary-pushing culture and fashion, and the city is a huge beacon for queer people who celebrate the city’s progressive ideology. Berlin’s parade ends at the famous Brandenburg Gate, before the ‘Berlin CSD’ – as the Pride event is called – disbands into dozens of parties across the city. Expect boat parties, live music and art, and speeches from influential LGBTQ+ people up until midnight, when crowds hang around at the Brandenburg Gate. Celebrate with one of the UK’s best LGBTQ+ scenes in Manchester: 23–26 August

Manchester has one of the UK’s most flourishing LGBTQ+ scenes, with Canal Street offering dozens of bars for the queer community. Brilliant at any time of year, with its pretty waterside venues, Canal Street plays a central role in the city’s Pride event, hosting the Gay Village Party, which this year includes performances from Eurovision’s Loreen and Jessie J. There’s a truly local feel to Manchester’s celebrations and it’s lovely that the big party takes place in one neat little part of town. The place to go after all the fun is Moxy Manchester City, which does what all good hotels do: it matches your mood, serving good coffee and casual vibes by day and punchy cocktails by night, with comfy beds awaiting upstairs. 

Remember, too, that Pride in London returns on 29 June – a great opportunity to explore the city's LGBTQ+ scene. There are brilliant bars, clubs and event spaces all across the capital, ranging from venues in east London staging more experimental drag and comedy shows, to the famous gay bars of Old Compton Street in Soho. Some of those, like Admiral Duncan, have been around for 40 years, and have become historical landmarks earmarking where the city's LGBTQ+ history began. London also has a wealth of alternative events, including talks and tours at the Science Museum, British Museum and Queer Britain, Britain's first LGBTQ+ museum.
